Bangalore, January 29, 2024 (CCBI): Rev. Dr. Christopher Vimalraj (56) from the Archdiocese of Bangalore was installed as Associate Deputy Secretary General of the CCBI on January 29, 2024. His Eminence Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão, the President of CCBI, presided over the installation prayer service held at the chapel of the CCBI General Secretariat, Bangalore in the presence of Most Rev. Dr. George Antonysamy, Vice President CCBI and Most Rev. Dr. Peter Machado, Archbishop of Bangalore.
The ceremony was attended by Rev. Dr. Stephen Alathara, Deputy Secretary General, CCBI; Rev. Dr. Yesu Karunanidhi, Secretary, Commission for Bible; Rev. Dr. Charles Leon, Secretary, Commission for VSCR; Rev. Fr. Vignan Das, Associate Director, Communio; and the staff at the CCBI General Secretariat.
Fr. Christopher was appointed by the 92nd Executive Committee meeting of the CCBI, held on September 21–22, 2023, in Bangalore. Currently, he is the director of the CCBI Bioethics Forum. He was born on October 23, 1967, and was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Bangalore on July 11, 2007. He is a moral theologian and an adjunct professor of Bioethics, Division of Health and Humanities, St. John’s National Academy of Health Sciences, Bangalore. He is also a member of the Institutional Ethics Committee at St. John’s Medical College and the Indian Council of Medical Research.
He holds a doctorate in moral theology from the Accademia Alfonsiana, Rome. He took a master’s degree in bioethics from Gemelli Medical College, Rome. He has a B. Sc. from St. Joseph’s College, Bangalore, Karnataka, and a P.G. (Diploma in Business Management) from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai, India; a B. Th. and L. Th. from the University of Wales, Lampeter, United Kingdom. He has corporate experience for twelve years as the manager of Pfizer Limited, in training and strategic business planning.
