Fr. Merlin Ambrose Appointed as Canon Law Commission Secretary

Bangalore 3 May 2022 (CCBI): Rev. Dr. Merlin Rengith Ambrose (40) from the diocese of Kottar, Tamilnadu appointed as the Executive Secretary to the CCBI Commission for Canon Law and Legislative Texts. The appointment was made by the Executive Committee of the CCBI held on 2 and 3 May, 2022. He is currently the professor of Canon Law at the St. Peter’s Pontifical Institute, Bangalore.

Fr. Merlin holds doctorate in Canon Law from Pontifical Urban University, Rome and Licentiate in Canon Law, St Peter’s Pontifical Institute, Bangalore. He also has master’s degree in Christian Studies, Madras University; diploma in Canonical Administrative Praxis, Congregation for the Clergy, Vatican; postgraduate diploma in Canonization Process, Congregation for the Causes of the Saints, Vatican; diploma in Priestly Formation, Congregation for the Clergy, Vatican; postgraduate diploma in Ecclesiastical Jurisprudence, Pontifical Urban University, Rome and diploma in Canonical Latin, Pontificium Institutum Altioris Latiniatis, Italy.

He was born on 16 May 1981 in Kottar diocese. He completed his priestly formation in Jnana Deepa Seminary, Pune and Sacred Heart Seminary, Poonamallee. He was ordained priest on 19 April 2009. He served in the parishes of Saint Joseph’s Church, Pillaithope; Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Sahayapuram and Holy Family Church, Carmel Nagar in the diocese of Kottar. He is the author of two books and hundreds of scientific articles.
