Bangalore 22 December 2021 (CCBI): His Holiness Pope Francis has appointed Rev. Fr. Antonis Bara (63) as Bishop of Ambikapur in Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, 22 December, 2021.
Fr. Antonis Bara was born on 26 February 1958, at Shobha (Bahora), in the diocese of Jashpur, Chhattisgarh. In 1977, he joined the Minor Seminary in Ambikapur. He did his theological studies in Rome, at the Propaganda Fide College. He was ordained Priest on 13 May 1988, in C.A. Saraitoli, in the Diocese of Jashpur. From 1988 to 1998 he served as Parish Priest in three different parishes of the Diocese of Ambikapur.
From 1998 to 2005 he was the Vicar General of the Diocese of Ambikapur and in charge of the formation of the Seminarians. From 2005 to 2012 he did his studies in Pastoral Theology (Licentiate and Doctorate) in Padova, at the Facoltà del Triveneto. From 2013 to 2017 he was the Vicar General, Parish Priest and in charge of the Seminarians. Since 2017, he has been the Vicar General of the Diocese of Ambikapur and in charge of the formation of the Seminarians.
