Fr. Anthaiah Appointed Secretary of Commission for Ecumenism

Bangalore, 10 May 2025 (CCBI): Rev. Dr. Anthaiah Kondaveeti has been appointed as the new Secretary of the Commission for Ecumenism of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI). The decision was made during the Executive Committee meeting held in Bangalore on 6–7 May 2025.

A priest of the Diocese of Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, Fr. Anthaiah brings with him nearly three decades of priestly ministry. Born on 5 May 1969 in Katrapadu, he was ordained on 27 April 1995. He holds a Doctorate in Dogmatic Theology from the Pontifical Urban University in Rome and has also pursued postgraduate studies in Systematic Theology, along with a refresher course for seminary formators.

His service to the Church spans both pastoral and academic fields. He previously served as the Assistant Deputy Secretary General of the CCBI. He was also a Professor of Systematic Theology and Spiritual Director at St. John’s Regional Seminary, Hyderabad. In his home diocese, he has served as Parish Priest and Procurator.

Currently, Fr. Anthaiah is the Regional Secretary for the Commissions of Ecumenism and Dialogue under the Telugu Catholic Bishops’ Council (TCBC), and the Executive Secretary of the Federation of Telugu Churches. He is also a visiting professor at various theological institutes.

Fluent in Telugu, English, and Italian, Fr. Anthaiah is known for his theological depth and commitment to Christian unity. His new role is expected to further strengthen the CCBI’s efforts in fostering ecumenical dialogue and collaboration among Christian communities across India.
