Bishop Innayya Addagatla Passes Away

Bangalore 2 April 2022 (CCBI): Most Rev. Innayya Chinna Addagatla (84), Bishop Emeritus Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh passes away on April 1, 2022 at 11.30pm at the Bishops House, Srikakulam. He was the Bishop of Srikakulam (1993-2018) and also the Bishop of Nalgonda (1989-1993). His funeral was conducted on April 4, 2022 at Sahayamatha Cathedral, Srikakulam.

He was born in Ravipadu, Guntur District on May 2, 19937. He did his minor seminary studies at Mariapuram minor seminary of Cuddapah, philosophy and theology studies in St. John’s Major Seminary, Hyderabad. He was ordained priest on January 4, 1965. After his ordination he served Holy Family Church, Bathili. He took B.Ed. from Maharaja College in Vizianagaram in 1979. He was appointed as headmaster and correspondent of St. Theresa RCM high school, Peddaboaddepalli. During this period he was also the Vicar General of the diocese.

At the age of 51 on April 17, 1989 he was appointed as the second Bishop of Nalgonda and ordained Bishop on June 29, 1989 at the Maria Rani Cathedral, Nalgonda. Pope St. John Paul II erected the diocese of Srikakulam bifurcating the Archdiocese of Visakhapatnam on July 1, 1993 and Bishop Innayya was transferred from Nalgonda to Srikakulam. He was installed as the first bishop of Srikakulam on November 4, 1994. Twenty-five years he was the Bishop of Srikakulam. He was retired from the active episcopal ministry on 12 December, 2018.

He also rendered his services as delegate of St. John’s Seminary, Hyderabad and was the Chairman for Commission for Education and also Chairman for Commission for Vocations of Telugu Regional Bishops’ Council. He is a priest for 57 years and a Bishop for 32 years.
