Bishop Godfrey de Rozario of Baroda Retired

Bangalore 18 December 2021 (CCBI): His Holiness Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of Most Rev. Godfrey de Rozario, SJ, (75) from the pastoral governance of the Diocese of Baroda, Gujarat from 18 December, 2021. Most Rev. Stanislaus Fernandes, SJ, Archbishop Emeritus of Gandhinagar, will continue as Apostolic Administrator of Baroda sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis, until the appointment of the next Bishop of Baroda.

Bishop Godfrey was born on 13 September 1946, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He was ordained priest of the Society of Jesus on 22 April 1978, and served as provincial superior of the Jesuits in Gujarat before his ordination as bishop. At the age of 50 he was appointed as the third Bishop of Baroda on 29 August 1997 by St. John Paul Second. He was ordained Bishop by Simon Ignatius Cardinal Pimenta on 28 December, 1997. He is priest for 43 years and a Bishop for 23 years.
