Bangalore 8 December 2021 (CCBI) His Holiness Pope Francis accepted the resignation of His Excellency Most Rev. Angelus Kujur (75) S.J., from the pastoral governance of diocese of Purnea in Bihar on 8 December, 2021.
Bishop Angelus Kujur, SJ was born on 14 July 1946 in the village of Mundaltoli, diocese of Purnea, Bihar. In 1968 he joined the Society of Jesus. He completed his studies in philosophy at Jnana Deepa Vidyapeeth in Pune, and in theology at the Jesuit Seminary in Vidyajyoti, Delhi. He was ordained a priest on 13 April 1980. The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI on 20 January 2007 appointed him as the Bishop of Purnea at the age of 60 and he was ordained Bishop on 18 April, 2007 by Telesphore Placidus Cardinal Toppo.
As a priest he was ministered as follows: 1981: six months parish pastoral work ; 1981-1985: studies for a Licentiate in psychology and spirituality at the Gregorian in Rome; 1985-1989: parish priest and then novice master at Jisu Jaher, Dumka; 1989-1995: first Provincial Superior of the Jesuit province of Dumka-Raiganj; 1996-2001: Novice Master St. Paul the Apostle’s College, Jisu Jaher, Dudhani, Dumka. Since 2001 superior and director of Jeevan Dhara (Retreat Centre) in Chotparua, Raiganj. He is a priest for 41 years and a bishop for 14 years.
