Bangalore 9 October 2019 (CCBI): Most Rev. John Baptist Sequeira (89) Bishop Emeritus Chikmagalur, Karnataka passed away on Wednesday, 9 October 2019 at 11.20pm due to old age ailments at the Home of the Little Sisters of the Poor, Hosur Road, Bangalore.
The funeral Holy Mass will be offered at the Home for the Aged, Little Sisters of the Poor, No 26 Hosur Road, (adjacent to Baldwin School), Bangalore at 3 p.m. on Friday, 11 October 2019. Thereafter, the burial will take place St. Patrick’s Parish Cemetery on Hosur Road.
Bishop J. B. Sequeira was born on 23 July 1930 and ordained priest on 15 April 1958. He was appointed the second Bishop of Chikmagalur on 26 January 1987 at the age of 56. He was ordained Bishop on 11 June 1987 by Most Rev. Alphonsus Mathias, the then Archbishop of Bangalore. He resigned from the pastoral governance of the diocese of Chikmagalur on 2 December, 2006 at the age of 76. He is a priest for 61 years and a Bishop for 32 years.
