New Archbishop for Gandhinagar, Gujarat

BanBp. Thomas Ignatus Macwan, Bishop of Ahmedabad-Optimized-1galore, 12 June 2015: His Holiness Pope Francis appointed His Excellency Rt. Rev. Thomas Ignatius Macwan, till now Bishop of Ahmedabad, as the new Archbishop of Gandhinagar. Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of His Grace Most Rev. Stanislaus Fernandes, S.J., from the pastoral care of the Archdiocese of Gandhinagar, according to Canon Law Can. 401 § 1,

Bishop Macwan is also appointed as Apostolic Administrator sede vacante of the Diocese of Ahmedabad. This provision was made public in Rome on Friday, 12th June, 2015, Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, at noon local time, corresponding to 15:30 hours, Indian Standard Time. The installation of Archbishop designate Thomas Macwan as Archbishop of Gandhinagar will take place on 12 September 2015, the St. Xavier’s School Grounds, Sector 8, Gandhinagar by His Excellency Salvatore Pennacchio Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal.
