Bangalore 11 January, 2019 (CCBI): Most Rev. Charles Soreng S.J., (84), Bishop Emeritus of Hazaribag, Jharkhand, passed away on Friday, 11 January, 2019 at 8.40 am at Seva Nilaya Health Centre, Ranchi.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, 15 January, 2019 at the Transfiguration of Our Lord Cathedral, Hazaribag at 1pm.
He was born on 18 August, 1934 and ordained priest on 24 March, 1969 for the Society of Jesus (SJ). He was appointed Bishop of Daltonganj, Jharkhand and ordained on 9 February, 1990. He was appointed first Bishop of Hazaribag on 1 April, 1995. He was retired from the active Episcopal ministry on 8 September, 2012 at the age of 78. He is a priest for 49 years and a Bishop for 28 years.
