Fr. Barthol Barretto Appointed as the Auxiliary Bishop of Bombay

Bangalore 20 December 2016: His Holiness Pope Francis has appointed Rev. Fr. Barthol Barretto, (55) of the Clergy of Bombay, until now Parish Priest of Immaculate Conception Church, Borivli and Vicar Forene, as Auxiliary Bishop of Bombay, assigning him the Titular See of Strongoli. This ecclesiastical provision was made public in Rome on Tuesday, 20th December, 2016, at noon local time, corresponding to 16:30 hours, Indian Standard Time.

Rev. Fr. Barthol Barretto was born in Mahim, Mumbai on 16th September, 1961. He did his Seminary studies at St. Pius X College, Archdiocese of Bombay, and later obtained a Bachelor of Arts. He has ordained priest on 8th April, 1989 for the Archdiocese of Bombay. He served the Archdiocese in the following assignments: Assistant Priest of St. Xavier Church, Dabul (1989-1993); Additional Director of the Youth Section of the Diocesan Pastoral Centre, Bandra (1993-1995); Director of the same Youth Section (1995-1999); Priest in-charge of St. Francis Xavier Parish Unit, Panvel (1999-2002); Parish Priest of St. Lawrence Parish at Wagle Estate, Thane, and Dean of Thane Deanery (2002-2004); Secretary to the Archbishop (2004-2008); Parish Priest of St. Thomas Church at Goregaon East and Spiritual Director at St. Pius X College, Goregaon; at the same time, from 2010, Administrator of the same College. Since 2011, he has been Parish Priest of Immaculate Conception Church at Borivli, and also Dean of Borivli Deanery.
