Bishop Thomas Anthony Vazhapilly of Mysore Diocese Retires

Bangalore 25 January 2016: His Holiness Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of His Excellency Most Rev. Thomas Vazhapilly from the pastoral care of the Diocese of Mysore, according to Canon Law 401 § 1.

Bishop Thomas Antony Vazhapilly was born on 11 April 1940 in Peringottukara, Trichur District, Kerala state and ordained a priest of Bombay Archdiocese on 2 December 1964. He was appointed Bishop of Mysore on 12 February 2003 and his Episcopal ordination was on 25 March 2003. Prior to his nomination as a bishop, he worked as a parish priest in Shimoga Diocese, a professor of theology in the St. Peter’s Pontifical Institute, Bangalore and Rector of the St. Peter’s Pontifical Seminary, Bangalore. He is a priest for 52 years and a bishop for 13 years.
