Bishop Peter Remigius of Kottar Diocese in Tamil Nadu Retires

Bangalore 20 May 2017 (CCBI): Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of His Lordship Rt. Rev. Peter Remigius from the pastoral care of the Diocese of Kottar, according to Canon Law 401 § 1. This provision was made public in Rome on Saturday, 20th May, 2017, at noon local time, corresponding to 15:30 hours, Indian Standard Time.

Bishop Peter Remigius, was born on May 20, 1939 at Melmanakudi in Kanyakumari District, Tamilnadu, Kottar Diocese. He was ordained a priest  for the Diocese of Kottar on 18 April,1966 at Madras by Rt. Rev . Dr. Arulappa, Archbishop of Madras – Mylopore. He was consecrated and installed Bishop of Kumbakonam on 3 January 1990 by His Eminence Lourdusamy. His motto is Hope, Dare, Serve. He served the diocese of Kumbakonam for 18 yrs. He was appointed bishop of Kottar on 30 June 2007 and took the canonical possession of the Diocese of Kottar on 24 August 2007. During the January 2013 TNBC meeting held in Chennai, Bishop Peter Remigius was elected President of TNBC. Bishop Peter Remigius with his effort and enthusiasm succeeded in elevating the Servant of God Devasahayam Pillai to the rank of Blessed and Martyr. He is a priest for 51 years and a bishop for 27 years.
