Appointment of the new Bishop of Bagdogra

His Holiness Pope Francis has appointed , of the clergy of Jalpaiguri, as the new Bishop of Bagdogra.This Ecclesiastical Provision was made public in Rome on Tuesday, 7th April, 2015, at noon local time, corresponding to 15:30 hours, Indian Standard Time.

Rev. Fr. Vincent Aind was born on 30th January, 1955 at Kalchini, West Bengal, Diocese of Jalpaiguri. He was ordained a priest on 30th April, 1984 for the Diocese of Jalpaiguri. He studied Economics at St. Joseph’s College, Darjeeling, West Bengal, Philosophy at Morning Star Regional Seminary, Barrackpore, Calcutta, and Theology at St. Joseph’s Seminary, Mangalore. He holds a Master Degree in English Literature, a Bachelor Degree in Economics, a Licentiate in Philosophy, from JnanaDeepaVidyapeeth, Pune, and a Doctorate in Philosophy, from Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome. He speaks and writes English, Hindi, Nepali, Bengali, Sadri, Mundari, Italian, French (only reading knowledge). After priestly ordination he was appointed Parochial Assistant for one year at Damanpur, then went to Pune for further studies (1985-1987). From 1987 onwards, he has been professor of philosophy at Morning Star Regional Seminary, Barrackpore. After completing his Doctorate in Rome (1996-1999), he served as Spiritual Director, Rector and Principal at Morning Star Regional Seminary. From 2005-2007 he was Parish Priest of St. Lucy’s Parish – Jyoti Ashram, Chalsa, Diocese of Jalpaiguri. Since 2007 until now: Professor and Dean, Faculty of Philosophy, Morning Star Regional Seminary, and at the same time Principal of Morning Star College; Diocesan Consultor and Member of Financial Council of Jalpaiguri Diocese; Regional Secretary, Commission for Clergy Religious and Seminaries, Regional Bishops’ Conference, West Bengal.
