Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio Appointed Nuncio to Poland

New Delhi 6 August 2016: Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio (64) the Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal has been appointed as the Apostolic Nuncio to Poland. From 8th May 2010 onwards he was serving as the Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal. He was born on 7th September 1952 in Marano di Napoli (Italy) and was ordained priest on 18th September 1976. He joined the diplomatic mission of the Holy See in 1979. He worked in the diplomatic missions, in Panama, Ethiopia, Australia, Turkey, Egypt, Yugoslavia and Ireland. On 28th November 1998 he was elected Titular Archbishop of Montemarano and Apostolic Nuncio to Rwanda. On 6th January 1999 he was ordained Bishop by Pope St. John Paul Second. On 20th September 2003 he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore and Apostolic Delegate to Myanmar, Laos, Malaysia and Brunei. He will leave India upon completion of his mission in the month of October 2016. He is a priest for 39 years and a bishop for 17 years. There are 45 Dioceses and 135 Bishops in Poland. These comprise about 10,000 parishes and religious orders. There are 37 million Catholics. 92.2% of Poland’s population is Catholic.
